Do you want to eat healthier without putting a major dent in your wallet? Dollar stores may surprise you. They have a wide variety of healthy foods for a dollar or less. Here is what you can expect to find at your local dollar store:

Vegetables

There’s no real surprise that vegetables are important to any healthy diet. They are rich in nutrients and low in calories and fat, making them the ideal food. Vegetables are high in six key nutrients: fiber, folate, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and iron.

Fruit

Like vegetables, fruit is nutrient dense and light on fat and calories. Its sweetness also makes it a great healthy snack. Fruit is the highest source of potassium which may be beneficial for blood pressure.

Protein
