When simply affording the necessities is a battle, finding the money to buy clothing for you and your children may seem impossible. Next time you find yourself in this predicament, don’t choose between putting food in your children’s bellies or clothes on their back. Here are places you can find clothing for free or next to nothing:

Thrift Shops

Thrift stores are notorious for having great prices on gently used clothing. Goodwill is one of the more popular ones, but most communities have smaller ones by churches and organizations.

Online Secondhand Stores

This is arguably the easiest way to find inexpensive clothing. Websites like Craigslist and Ebay are well known for having gently used clothes at great prices. There are also lesser known sites like ThredUp that are definitely worth trying.

Freecycle

This is a lesser known website that is great for finding people in your area giving things away. You can find clothing and much more. Best of all, it’s free.

Charities

There are quite a few charities out dedicated to providing clothing to the underprivileged. You can find charities in your area at Freelanthropy and Guidestar.

While buying groceries and paying the bills is obviously more important, having weather appropriate clothes is more fundamental to your child’s success than you may think. Don’t be afraid to get help if you need it.
