Daycare can end up being a costly expense, but a necessary one. As a single parent, you’ve got to work to make money, and you can’t necessarily have your child with you at all times. Here are some ways you can get the child care you need, but at a rate that won’t break the bank:

Family and Friends

First of all, consider the fact that you most likely have a large arsenal of people who would be more than happy to watch your children when you need it. Not only does this provide you the necessary care at no cost to you, but it provides critical bonding time between your children and the people who are important in your life.

Kid Swap or Play Date

Talk to other moms about a kid swap, then arrange a play date. You host one day, and then the child’s parents host on another. This gives your child an opportunity for play dates both inside and outside your home.

Gym With Child Care

Many health clubs have child care areas as an added benefit for its members. If yours does, take advantage. If yours doesn't, consider switching to one that does. You do have to pay for the gym membership, but you would’ve done that anyways.

Clubs, Classes, Music Lessons, Sports or Other Kids Activities

Many communities offer sports or after-school programs for kids to take advantage of. These are often either free or inexpensive, and give your child the opportunity to bond with other kids while participating in something that may make them happy.

Child Care Co-op

Join or start a babysitting co-op with moms who are home during the day. Look to online resources like local parenting listings or websites to locate a childcare coop in your area.

Quality child care doesn't have to be expensive, and you’ll end up saving a considerable amount of money if you follow these tips.
