Kids will soon be returning to school from winter break, and for some that means school supplies will need to be replenished. While more expensive items like backpacks may have already been taken care of at the beginning of the school year, other items will need to be replaced. The expense probably won’t be as high, but if you’re low on cash, getting these school supplies can still be an issue. Thankfully there are ways to find what your child needs at much lower prices. Check out some of the ways you can save below.

  • Buy In Bulk

    • Warehouse stores or websites like Oriental Trading offer larger quantities of pencils, pens, paper, notebooks, and more for a considerable discount. An added benefit of buying in bulk is that you will have supplies left over for the next school year, which saves you even more money.

  • Visit Your Nearest Dollar Store

    • Most dollar stores have almost all of the supplies your child will need. Some even have backpacks!

  • Check The Discount Section Of Big Box Stores

    • Some stores like Target and Walgreens have discount sections or dollar sections where you can find cheap seasonal items. Around the time children are returning to school, they stock these sections with supplies.

  • Find Businesses Giving Promotional Items

    • Often referred to as “Swag” or Stuff We All Get, business promotional items like pens and notebooks can really come in handy when your child needs school supplies.

  • Contact Your Child’s School

    • Most schools have programs that help families with school related things they may not be able to afford, including supplies. Give them a call and see if they have such a program or at least extra supplies they can provide your child.

With these tips, you can make restocking your child’s school supplies for the second half of the school year much less expensive, which can be especially helpful if your wallet is still hurting from the holiday season!
