Valentine's Day is the day of love, but that doesn't mean you have to be in a relationship to celebrate. You can express your love to your child, family, and friends- but it's also a great time to show yourself some love. Though some feel that self-love is selfish, it's important for your well-being. This is especially true for single parents, because your child will learn self-love by your example. Figuring out how to give yourself the best Valentine's Day may not be easy if you're not used to it, but it’s still possible.
Here's what to do: think about what the perfect day would look like for you, and then make it happen! Solo Valentine's Day date lists are great for inspiration but ultimately, nobody knows you better than you do. The great thing about being your own valentine is you don't have to worry about going on a date that you won't enjoy; you get to pick the date!
Really indulge yourself to the best of your ability. Is a relaxing day at home calling your name? Or have you been waiting for an opportunity to have an adventure? Whatever it is, go for it. Make this Valentine's Day the one day that is all about you. Buy yourself a gift. Eat your favorite foods. Check something off of your bucket list. In general, treat yourself!
You may be wondering how you could make that happen when you have a child. Friends and family that are in a relationship will probably be doing something with their significant other, and the single ones will probably be hanging out with friends.
However, many of the single parents you know are in the same position as you and need someone to watch their child so they can have a day to themselves or with friends. Why not switch off days? On the day before or after Valentine's Day, one of you can have your day while the other babysits. On Valentine's Day, the two of you can switch. This gives both of you the chance to have Valentine's Day with and without the children.
So how will you give yourself a great Valentine's Day? Let us know in the comments below!
