Single mom, Marsha Parker surprised her family and friends when she dropped over 100 lbs - within a year!

As parents, we all know how hard it is to dedicate time to workout. Being a Single Parent makes this even more of a challenge. Marsha Parker never struggled with weight issues until after giving birth to her daughter, Kumari. After her pregnancy, she found herself weighing over 200 pounds. Though getting back into shape was the last thing in Marsha’s mind, she began and committed to her fitness journey by signing up to Kickboxing classes. She then joined the treadmill fitness studio at the Mile High Run Club.

Marsha liked working out so much that she found herself doing it almost everyday! Her biggest supporter was her daughter, who would join her mom on morning runs around Central Park and Pelham Bay Park. Marsha told TODAY News:

“My little girl would keep saying, I want you to be happy! When she spoke to me, she was very serious but loving about it. I thought, I have to do this now, while she’s young- I don’t want to set a negative example.”

Marsha Parker’s story is a great example of how you and your children can start doing something that is not just productive, while being a positive example. Working out as a family is a great way to bond with your kid(s), even if it’s as small as taking a walk to your local park or neighborhood. It’s free, fun, motivating, and overall healthy!

How can you incorporate this into your family routine? Let us know!
